What Markdown Is

Markdown is a plain-text format that uses simple symbols for formatting. A # makes a heading, ** makes bold text, and a dash starts a list. Many README files, forums, and note apps use it.

How This Tool Works

The preview is rendered in your browser by the marked library, then cleaned with DOMPurify before it's shown. That cleaning removes script tags and other unsafe HTML, so a pasted snippet can't run code on the page.

Common Syntax

  • # Heading, ## Subheading
  • **bold**, *italic*
  • [link text](https://example.com)
  • - item for a bullet list, 1. item for a numbered list
  • Triple backticks around code for a code block
